Dr. Matthew Black is an oral surgeon who strives to provide every patient with compassionate care. During college, Dr. Black explored various career paths. This included training to become an EMT, which exposed him to surgical procedures, patient care, and anesthesia.
As an active-duty member of the military, he was deployed to Iraq where his friend suggested a career in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Dr. Black began shadowing the different dental specialties and was drawn to oral and maxillofacial surgery for its complexity and the ability to safely administer anesthesia.
Dr. Black joined Columbia Basin Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery due to the team-oriented mentality and dedication to exceptional patient care. His philosophy, treating others with kindness and respect, is shared among the experts at this practice. The surgeons here are genuine, sincere, and treat patients like members of their own family.

Dr. Black earned his bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration from Brigham Young University. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry, then completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center.
Dr. Matthew Black is a proud member of several organizations, including the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS), the American Dental Association (ADA), and the Washington State Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (WSSOMS).
Additionally, upon graduation from dental school, he was elected to the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society. He is board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS). Dr. Black is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, a prestigious honor earned through both oral and written examinations that showcase his dedication to and expertise in his specialty.
When he is not at work, Dr. Black loves spending time with his wife and four children. Together, they enjoy just about anything that gets them outdoors and gaining new experiences.
